American Elm?

The leaves certainly looked like American Elm to me. Is it possible there are still some large specimens here and there untouched by the blight? The "here" is New Suffolk, on the south shore of the North Fork of Long Island.

Manny the praying mantis

Never thought I'd have an insect for a pet. Manny has been hanging around the garden for at least a week. Beautiful green color underneath. Fifth picture is from today, the others from last Saturday. When the camera approaches he turns his head as if to say hello.

Rose garden, Southampton

A must-do pilgrimmage in late June, this wonderful rose garden right next to the public library in Southampton. Words fail me -- the variety, the perfect condition, the tasteful arrangement. A great and unique gift to the public. 250 rose bushes. You could wear out your camera here.

Oh, they're red!

A month ago at a farmers market I bought a small pot of portulacas. I wondered what color they would turn out to be. All of a sudden they have burst into bloom, surprising me with their wonderful flame red.
