Setauket Harbor 2:30 this afternoon. Between 40 and 50 Brant all over the harbor. Skittish and wild. Quickly swam over to the other side when I approached the shore. Wish I had a telephoto lens. Never saw Brant here before. Click on picture to enlarge.
Nice pictures! I have never heard of or seen Brant's either. Good Find!!

ReplyDeleteThey are in the goose famiy, K. When I first saw them I wondered "what kind of duck is that?" and couldn't find them in the book. Then I realized the beak was goose-like and that they were brant, probably migrating.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning!!! I hadn't heard of a brant goose either - nice pictures.
ReplyDeleteYesterday there were about 150 of them there feeding on eel grass at 11:00. I think we're going to have a mild winter. It's about 60 right now.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I've never seen them before.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are right about a mild winter.
Two days ago (12/10) the Brant were still there, about 150 all bunched together in Scotts Cove. There was a terrible storm the night before.
