I googled "grass lily" and the pictures look like what I have always called Star of Bethlehem, which is low to the ground and blooms just once, in spring.
I googled rain lily and found pictures from Austin, Texas of what looks like your rain lily and also pictures that look like Star of Bethlehem. Odd. I saw other names for rain lily but grass lily was not among them. I did see fairy lily. I once thought our grass lilies were the same thing as fairy lilies and gave some to a coworker who said it wasn't a fairy lily at all and didn't suit his wife.
Maybe they are the same as our "grass lilies". Ours have budded very soon also after a thunderstorm. They look very much like ours.
