I think if you take the tubers in for the winter (maybe the whole pot) they can be planted out again the next year. This plant is new to me, was a gift from a friend. I think they are originally from Florida. She said never water them. They need to dry out before the rainstorm that makes them bloom. They were like this for only 2 days; already finished.
Bring the whole pot inside for the winter. The green leaves will stay (you may loose some leaves, not to worry) all winter and then just put the pot out again in the spring. The original ones were from my aunt in Florida where they can be planted in the ground all year. They do not winter over outside here. The life of the bloom is short, but sweet. Yes, the bud grows up very fast from the base when it decides to bloom. You can water them if they get very, very dry.
