Unfortunately, McCain was a lackluster candidate who just didn't seem to have his finger on what our nation needs to straighten itself out.
Obama, on the other hand, is such a wild card with unsettling views about the role of government and our ability to keep on spending in an attempt to correct the problems created by those who were in a position to take advantage of others. Our economy was obviously in such a roiling boil that it couldn't have been sustained.
Obama did grow into a more visible presidential stance than McCain did - his youth and stamina are definitely to his advantage in the years ahead - McCain just didn't seem physically up to that aspect of the demands.
The term that I just heard for the first time this past week - and that Obama is susposed to represent - "post race" - is one indicative of a growth in our society that, I hope, is genuinely underway.
I don't think I can choose a favorite quote from the speech. I don't understand why so many have said this wasn't a great speech or as great as other speeches the President has made. I find it a perfect speech for the occasion. Contrary to the opinion of those who say it did not equal his rhetorical skills, I think it reaches rhetorical heights by its simplicity and brevity. It is immensely inspiring to me.
