Ocean Grove, continued

Way to meet people...water your garden all day (he was there in the morning and still there when we were going home)

Here's Mary checking out the bookshop.

This is the back of the antique hurdy gurdy that was churning out cheerful tunes.

And this is the front of the hurdy gurdy.

Flowers growing out of some retired shoes.

This is the Great Auditorium where we heard a wonderful organ concert by Dr. Gordon Turk who played everything from Ralph Vaughn Williams to Bach to a piece for tuba stop by someone called Oliphant Chuckerbutty (and that was his real name!)

Every house has a lovely garden in front and they really care about this sort of thing!

I don't know who this is in front of the auditorium, but Mary took the picture with my camera. (This person needs to lose weight!)

Ambrose Chuckerbutty...what a great name :)
The retired shoes are cute. There is a lady over here on the west side that utilizes her husband's old workboots. She has about 5 pairs planted & she places them atop of her stone wall. Very whimsical & charming.
That fellow has a nice garden, I would love to chat with him :)

P.S. I would have to tell him though that he's watering his garden wrong...he loses quite a bit of water spraying it up like that. It also promotes fungus & mildew to soak the foliage...you should water at the base of the plants!
do you think I would end up all wet if I did?

You're absolutely right about the watering, and you're not all wet! I wish you could have seen those gardens, Cheryl. Another good thing about the place...parking was free. There was a rock band playing on a street corner near where we had lunch (The Barbarian Bean) and I'm sure the older residfents hated that.

Is "the wine guy" a friend of yours? No one I know. Could be spam.

Where did I come up with Ambrose? Oh my I do need to get out more huh?!
Oliphant...that's even better!

Nope, don't know the Wine Guy.

I would love to wander about that town soaking in all the sights.

I wrote Ambrose first, then checked on Wikepedia and it's Oliphant, so corrected it. (No, you're not going crazy). He played both for early cinemas and in churches.

Whew! I'm glad you explained the "Ambrose" thing - wondered if my daughter had flipped a switch.

Besides that gentleman watering and talking, I bet he was also keeping an eye out to prevent walkers-by from picking his flowers.

mmmm - I have an old pair of snake boots that I could cut the tops down some and use them as planters...

P someone has taken over my body too and put weight on it, I am trying to take it back! You look marvelous to me any how

Unfortunately this weight-gain thing seems to be a age-induced phenomonen that plagues all of us ... I've gained back all the weight (15 pounds) that I lost last summer while helping the first fence-builder on the yard fence over at Possum Hollow. The winter saw a steady creep-creep upward that I couldn't seem to stop. Now I have arrived at the same weight tha I started with last summer - so frustrating!! It seems that hard labor in the hot, unrelenting sun is the only way that I can loose weight since my metabolism has reset itself another couple of notches lower ...

P.S. you are a woman of my own style sense - love that jaunty baseball cap!!

Aw Kristen, you're so nice, nice, nice. But I know how I look! Protein burns fat, they say, so I'm going home and cook a hamburger (I'm at work this evening)

B...the cap cost 50 cents 3 years ago. I'm thrifty.

I'm with you on the thrifty attitude - I get all my work clothes at the local thrift store - sure can't justify spending fancy $$ on clothes that are only going to get messed up. But I do pick up some nicer items also.
