12,000 year old carving found in Florida

In Vero Beach the only known carving of prehistoric animals to be found in America.

Quite a long article on this amazing bit of ancient art.
This and other interesting stories can be found on the daily Archaeological Headlines

I thought the Witch's Bottle was interesting...funny how veins of misogyny permeates humanity throughout time, or perhaps it's more accurately described as fear.

Visible even today in cultures where women are oppressed and treated as second class citizens, I believe that is rooted in fear as well.

Wouldn't it be a different world if it were matriarchal?

Priscilla - what a fascinating article. I had no idea that Florida had such a history.

There is a mound here on my place that a couple of people have remarked about its possibilities of being an old Indian burial site. No test borings or whatever have ever been done.

Thanks for posting the links!

Don't you get curious about what's in that mound?

It could be a great project for an archaeology class.

This is fascinating. I never thought of Florida as a place where such a thing could exist. Florida seems to me such a shifting place, impermanent. Thanks.
