I went on a HIKE and it was sooo cold we nearly froze.
But it was fun.
Enjoy some pictures of our north shore of Long Island Sound!
I'm in a couple of them...black coat, tan pants, white shoes.

wow that looks like fun but probably more fun in warmer weather. Did you know we have a large rock in East Hartland that is famously labeled "Balance Rock" and so is the road that it lives on? I am going by childhood memory but I think it was placed where it was by a glacier a long time ago. I'll try and find my picture of it and post for you.
Do you live near there?
Are you a member of the nature conservatory?
I see you inspecting weeds!
(Another disappearing comment. I'll try to reproduce it.)
Yes, that's me inspecting weeds. It was so cold I could hardly think straight.
I belong to both the Nature Conservancy and the Stony Brook Environmental Conservancy. We haven't had any more hikes since that day. Hmm?!
I live in Stony Brook, about 2 miles south of the Sound. There are lots of bodies of water around here so I've become very interested in bird watching.
(Let's see if this one disappears too)
My comments have been duplicating themselves lately so I can see what you mean. weird stuff happens!
I have become one of the founding members of the Hartland Land trust
if you are bored and would like to check out our web page it is

I am glad to hear about your conservancy efforts!
We have some wonderful trails here in town, I love to go hiking in the woods. My favorite trail leads you down to a waterfall, a hidden treasure! While sometimes it's rough living way out in the boonies, it's worth it to me as it is such beautiful country, with a minimum of people (a very good thing!).
You folks re so lucky to have all that land nd rural beauty! I applaud you for your activism in seeking to preserve it. If public opinion here on Long Island had been so far-sighted 30 or 40 years ago we would have a much more beautiful landscape now. The developers have had their wn way up until very recently. There is now a proposal to develop a wondeful stretch of grassland in Calverton which is home to many species of birds. What the damn fools want to do is build an indoor ski slope on this flat area (if God had wanted a mountain there he would have...)The site used to be the test range for Grumman fighter planes...I watched the last one roar overhead 15 years ago... after which it reverted nicely to grassland, but is now another case of "goodbye beauty, hello traffic and eyesores" I went to your site and looked at all the pages. What a wondeful small town atmosphere you have! America as it used to be.
Oh I am so excited you both checked out the land trust page!!! Thanks!! Sometimes it just needs to be mentioned and it helps when you know someone who is involved. Cheryl I can't wait to see what pictures you take to enter in the contest. I have the entry form on my desktop so I may try also to enter, Mo would probably have a good time with it too
Kris, I think I'll put in the reservoir shot, the one above the trees with the fog winding along the water. Maybe today I'll try to go down to the waterfall, get a few winter shots. I am also thinking about the picture of the stream, with the glacier rocks above/below the water. What do you think?
I just enjoyed tracking thru both the Stony Brook Conservancy walk photos and the Hartland Land Trust website - we all seem to be of the same bent about loving the lands and wilderness that is still around us.
Priscilla - I can feel the cold with you. Just having walked on the beaches of the Bolivar Peninsular over in TX during the winter and feeling that wet wind coming off the Gulf - shiver!!! I'm sure your area is much much more intensely cold than the BP beaches in winter!!
Cheryl do submit a couple of your photos - they are so good!! Kristen, you have some photos that need to be submitted also!!!
Cheryl I love all your photo's I think I need you to show me a thing or two with my new camera. Biddie, I lost all of my pictures when I broke this dear laptop. I could probably save a few from by blog, good thing I had that huh>?
Any pix you published on your blog, wouldn't they still be there in cyberspace, independent of the commputer you used to post them? (Is that right, you guys who know about blogging?)
