Hey Oppy!

Are you back from Wisconsin yet?

Hope you weren't in the Dells area with all the flooding.

No, I flew into Minnisota (Minniapolis/St. Paul) and went over the Wisconsin state line about 5 or 6 miles to Hudson. Didn't see anything unusual although apparently there had been a tornado about 20 miles north of Hudson a acouple of weeks ago. Heavy rains are apparently fairly normal this time of year there. It rained pretty hard sometime between midnight and 5am Sunday morning. I didn't hear it (I slept like a log) but the water outside gave witness to it. Big puddles and a small drainage ditch was all but over flowing.

My uncle lives in MN. and when I was a kid we went to the WI Dells, I went on a boat ride, I think it's a bit more populated now with more theme parks

I seem to remember going past or through that area on one of our (Joy and I) trips in the late '80s. We started from Michigan (after attending the wedding of the son of a friend of ours) and went up through the UP (Upper Peninsula) and along the southern shore of Lake Superior. Then through Minnisota and I think that trip took us through North Dakota before coming south back to Colorado.

This guy is a real gypsy at heart. Wow - what did you go to WI for?

If you mean this last weekend my oldest son's (Rob lifer in the Army) step daughter (he recently finished a divorce to her mother - sounds like a soap opera) graduated from high school. Rob is the only "father" she ever knew and she and I spend a bit of time walking along the Poudre River when she was between the ages of 4 and 6. There was the usual grandfather/granddaughter bond.

If you mean about the trip I mentioned it was a return trip from Michigan and since at the time neither Joy or I had been in North Dakota or the UP it was a good way to see some more of this country and add another state to our list.

My ears perked up at the mention of you flying - I wondered if you were sent out on a business trip. That's really special that both you and Rob would make the effort to go to your granddaughter's graduation - all the way to WI - I bet she was glad to see you!!

Actually she was. And I'm told (for as much as I can believe her mother - and that's a very long story) she was most excited about my coming to the graduation. She and Rob had butted heads a lot while Rob and Dawn (her mother) were married. To indicate this, one time she ran away from home. The entire base (Fort Carson, CO) was shut down for several hours searching for her. You can imagine how happy Rob and the higher brass was about that!

Sorry, no business trip. Haven't taken one of those in 10 or more years.

How neat to have that grandfather/granddaughter relationship. I never had a grandfather; both mine died before I was born.
Glad you escaped the flooding. It looked pretty bad on TV.
I was in the Wisconsin Dells once long ago. In college (Wheaton College outside of Chicago)we went on a geology field trip there. Silly me wore Bermuda shorts and no jacket and the temp plummeted and it began to snow and there we were clambering around with our little pickaxes getting samples. Brrr.

I never knew either of my grandfathers. One was the black sheep of the family and he died in Runnels(sp?) VA Hospital in BH in 1943. I didn't find out about that until '86 when my parents were moving to CA. The other grandfather died in '39. He's the one that built the house in BH I was born and raised in. The only grandparent I ever knew was my grandmother and it was her house I was living in. There were some problems with that but we all survived it. She's the one I mentioned a while back to Cheryl when talking about flowers and floral arrangments.

My relationship with Michelle wasn't bad but I didn't let her get away with stuff. I just wasn't as heavy handed as Rob was which is why she still likes me.
