Well, Priscilla - I sorta did the lights out thing.
I did the following: ~~ turned off all house lights ~~ unpluged microwave oven (clock) ~~ unplugged phone/answering machine ~~ unplugged 2 clock/radios ~~ stopped charging the cell phone
I didn't do the following: ~~ turn off hot water heater ~~ turn off refrigerator ~~ unplug stove (clock) ~~ turn off the big yard light (can't turn it off) ~~ unplug the satellite/TV
So I figure that my contribution to saving electricity was marginal but my heart's intents were good ....
Did you try it? It's obvious to me that going without electricity for real would be difficult.
You were a GOOD GIRL turning off all those things! I turned off all lights but continued to watch TV. Then I went outside and saw every house in the neighborhood lighted up... sigh. This action was a gesture of solidarity and commitment, I guess, didn't really save any energy. But the speed with which the idea caught on around the world shows that many many people want to do tangible things to reduce energy consumption. "Heart's intent", that is the idea. I was going to use my candle lantern but the hour was over before I got around to looking for it.
