Gas Pains

What's the price in your area?
I paid $3.399 a gallon yesterday for Regular.
I'm so glad I don't have an SUV!

I'm so glad that I have a little Hyundai - approx. 32 mpg. (Sure wish it were more than that.) The big Ford van, that is useful for hauling the heavy stuff that the Hyundai can't handle, gets only about 15 mpg on the road, less than that in town. Poor Vanna White is parked most of the time these days!

The cheapest place here in my county is the Walmart. I get a gas card "filled" inside and then use it at the pump - this gives me a 3 cent discount over the actual price.

On 2-29, the discounted price was $3.159 per gal. By 3-10, the discounted price was $3.269 per gal.

Whenever I have to go to AL for something (about 32 miles away), I always fill up up there - their gas prices are any where between 10 to 14 cents cheaper than here in my area.

The average price around the eastern slopes (the beginning of the Rocky Mountain range) seems to be about 3.159 for unleaded but there are a few stations in our area (Ft. Collins) that are still selling at 2.969 but you have to know where they are. It get up to WTF levels in the higher mountains. Those people going up to ski really take it in the shorts!

This is just for general info.

I had the suspicion our prices were the highest in the nation, except maybe Calif, and your responses are beginning to confirm that. I stick with Shell and Texaco, am afraid the lower price places have "bad" gas. My '99 Prizm/Corolla gets about 25 miles to the gallon.

I have a 2004 Nissan Altima and it costs me about $48 to fill it and it lasts almost exactly one week, I drive 12 miles each way to work 5 days a week and hardly drive any where on the weekends. My car tells me I get 24-25 miles to the gallon around town but 27-28 on the highway. unfortunately I don't do much highway driving, it's back roads to work. Price of gas here is about $3.40 on average

Out here you get to know which gas stations are good and which aren't. Just ask a local. There are 2 that are good although one of those doesn't look all that, shall I say, inviting? But their gas is good. I'm driving a '97 Saturn station wagon (yes, I have to fold myself up to get in - that's another story). Up until recently it got about 30 to 32 mpg around town and 36 to 39 mpg at 75mph. It needs a tune up which I'm waiting until I have a warm weekend without any other jobs that "just have to be done!". (read that as a comment on the honey-do list)

You mean you do your own tune-ups? I could never do that. If I try hard I can do something like measure the oil level with a dipstick.
Kristen, your gas is the same price as ours. That's strange.

Priscilla,

I've always done my own tune ups. I've also done almost all my repairs which included engine rebuilding and some transmission rebuilding too (mostly manual transmissions). There aren't too many things mechanical, electrical, or plumbing I can't fix or build. (there are some things I WON'T DO though)

I have to admit I'm getting lazy in my old age. I get tired of doing a lot of that stuff any more but changing the oil and filter or replacing spark plugs, air filters, and a few other things I still do but I limit myself to spring, summer, and fall. NOT winter. [grin]
