Incredible fabric

This beautiful woven silk fabric is unique in the world. It was made from the silk from more than one million golden orb spiders in Madagascar. We saw it today at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC.

I couldn't stop looking at it. Mesmerizing. The rich golden color is natural. Here is some more information about the exhibit of Spider silk.
If you watch the video you can get a better idea of the lustrous color and texture of the silk. It's an awe-inspiring object.

What is kombucha?

Don't ask me--I just heard about it. Apparently it's a fermented tea drink that is all the rage in California and is creeping Eastward.

You can
make your own or buy it in bottles ... where? I'll try the new Whole Foods store that just opened in Lake Grove.

Stay tuned.

Of course there is a Wikipedia article.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed

Read Paul Krugman on health care reform again, a piece in which he tells us about the scumbag company Assurant Health. Your blood will boil. These predators have to be stopped.

Watch 'em

I'm probably the last person in the world to learn, as I just did, that you can watch C-Span online, on your laptop sitting in the park even. That is, you can watch the rascals in action (or inaction), the House of Respresentatives. Live!

The link is available through our congressman
Tim Bishop's website.

Ain't technology grand?

Actually, here is a link to C-SPAN online.
You can watch the Senate, too.

Update 3/19/10: Tim Bishop has just announced he will vote YES on the Health Care Reform bill and he has posted this document showing how it will
help Long Islanders

A reasonable, responsible plan

Paul Krugman's columns in the New York Times are always worth reading and reflecting on. Not only are they clearly written but they come from someone who knows what he's talking about. His latest piece is a good summary of why the Health Care Bill should be passed.
Health Reform Myths

Every other civilized nation on earth provides for health care for ALL of its citizens. Why shouldn't we? We must.
