A reasonable, responsible plan

Paul Krugman's columns in the New York Times are always worth reading and reflecting on. Not only are they clearly written but they come from someone who knows what he's talking about. His latest piece is a good summary of why the Health Care Bill should be passed.
Health Reform Myths

Every other civilized nation on earth provides for health care for ALL of its citizens. Why shouldn't we? We must.

I agree completely.

Having myself gone without health insurance for 15 years (until recently) I have no patience with the hardhearted cowards in Congress who strut around in proud opposition and lie about the details of this very modest beginning to a solution to our national problem which is now of crisis proportions.

All the billions we are spending on a war could be used to pay for health insurance for the folks that don't have it

Isn't that the truth, K, and doesn't it burn you up? It does me.
What if ..... Bush had NOT won the election and a different president had the decision how to deal with Saddam and 9/11 ... the What Ifs of history, better not to think about them, I guess. Bad for the blood pressure (which problem I'm dealing with all of a sudden)

I sure would like to have health insurance, but it is just too expensive. The end result is that health issues get ignored because you can't afford treatment. Besides you get treated poorly when the doctor realizes you have no insurance. Years ago I had a doctor tell me I had precancerous cells on my cervix, but he didn't want to run more tests because I had no insurance. It discouraged me from going to any doctor.

Any doc who treats you poorly because you have no HI is unprofessional, in the minority, and you should look elsewhere for treatment (clinic associated with a university). I know what you mean about the putting off...I did that for 15, maybe 20 years and got away with it. I'm now being treated for high blood pressure which I realize I've had for at least 6 years, maybe many more. It's our national shame that this money-oriented system should be allowed to exist in such a rich and "good" nation.
If the bill passes you will then be able to have affordable HI, Cheryl. Pray for that.

I recently found a web page that tells you what EVERY CT state employee makes for a living and what each town/business/store, etc has received from the state, probably for DCF or welfare. Any how, it's amazing how much money is wasted on stuff, I swear if every person that made over $100,000 gave up $1000 a year think how much money that would be, and could be used elsehwere, health insurance, etc and they would hardly miss that amount of money in thier paychecks I bet

I have health insurance and have always had it, I used to take it for granted but it is a HUGE part of my reason to work and keep a steady job, some days I would love to just jump ship and get a job that was less stressful but I have this great benefit that me and my son need.
I am glad you got health insurance P, can't believe you went that long without, and Cheryl, I thought you finally got some too? You can find a lower premium policy if you check around, want me to help you?

No Kris, neither Dave or I have it. Of the two of us it's more crucial that he gets covered. I appreciate your offer but it's just not in the cards right now, thanks anyway.
