We Have Goslings!!

Three eggs have hatched since yesterday and the little guys are already running around and pecking at pebbles and falling over each other and huddling under Mama's wing. They are adorable. And ... she's sitting on 2 more eggs. We're all thrilled.
I took these pictures a few minutes ago. They were moving around so fast it was hard to get the pictures.

How exciting!! I hope that they somehow make it safely off of there before the summer heat builds up .....

yeah!!!! Good to see a happy beginning for those little dudes!
There were some ducks at our pond across the street yesterday, I walked over to take picutures< i thought they would go from land into the water but instead, the flew away! I didn't expect that I suppose, so I scared away my chance at pictures.

Good Morning!! How are the little goslings doing?

I keep hoping that a family of wild ducks find the one remaining pond over at Possum Hollow and decide to make a home there.

But so far, only a huge Great Blue Heron stops by daily during the part of the year when the fish are active. It stays up high in the branches of the trees around the pond, watching for a chance to grab a fish (Brim). The other pond dried up so bad in last summer's drought, that the fish had no where to hide and the egret cleaned it out.

By 6pm the mother had abandoned the nest. The two remaining eggs were apparently no good. It was cold and windy and no chicks were in sight. One adult bird was sitting on the ledge in another area with wings sort of spread out. There may have been one or more little unes underneath, I couldn't tell. But they might have tumbled over the edge. I'll call tomorrow and find out what's happening.

They're not going to find much to eat up there unless someone throws some food out. I really hope there are some low bushes at ground level near the wall. I wouldn't want to see them seriously hurt either.

Any news on the goslings?

I called this afternoon and found that they are definitely gone. Whether they fell to their deaths, sort of flew, were picked off by crows, or came down unharmed...we just don't know. Sort of frustrating. I'd like to know one way or the other! Someone said it's normal for them to leave the area after 2 days. I didn't see anything on the ground underneath when I was going home on Friday, but it was AWFULLY high up and there was a driveway underneath. Sorry I don't have any good news. I'll keep my eyes peeled for goslings on campus.
