Orpheus Charming the Animals

This is the postcard image I bought at the Pierpont Morgan Library.
"Orpheus Charming the Animals"
by Jacob Hoefnagel (1575-c. 1630).
Cheryl and her menagerie.
An image from the Internet--what a difference.

What a wonderful painting! I'll have to find a larger version to see if it has a chukar in it :)

It's a good thing I have a very tolerant husband, isn't it?

Whoops!! Happy Halloween to ya Tootsie!!!!

I'll start being worried when
Cheryl takes up the violin ....

No worries there Mom, when I was a kid for a very brief period I took violin lessons. It was an abysmal failure.

But I do play a mean kazoo...does that count? :)

Priscilla, I come by the animal thing honestly. Mom as you know has quite the collection of critters, and Dad used to have rattlesnakes as pets (among other beasties).

My sister also has the animal gene. She has rehabbed many birds, including owls, hummingbirds, and hawks. I guess it runs in the blood :)

Yes, I guess it does, Ms. Pumpkin Face! Good thing you have the space for them.

Ms. Pumpkin Face has a confession...I'll soon have to wear a gourdle to help squash my pumpkin bottom. I used to turnip my nose at the very idea...but no longer!

I just put up a better image of the painting.

I heard this advice somewhere: If your head gets too big your TURBAN won't fit, you BRASSY CUS. (Doesn't apply to you, of course)
Do they still make "gourdles"? I haven't worn one in decades. I guess some PULPle need them. That's all, Buttercup!
