Ribbitt!!

It was wonderful meeting my blogging buddies Cheryl and Kristen yesterday in Litchfield,CT. Cheryl presented me with a delightful frog pin. Thank you, Cheryl! I was touched. I hope he will stay on.
(These ladies are slimmer than they let on...all that talk about having gained weight! They looked just gorgeous)
Never fear, I'm going to post some pictures later today.....
The weather was gorgeous, the drive up 584 and 84 was a visual treat, and to meet friends at the end of the drive was heartwarming. St. Michael's was impressive with its Tiffany windows and elaborate wood carving. The town of Litchfield is wonderful, with old houses, open spaces, interesting shops, and hills in the distance (which impressed 2 flatlanders from Long Island). The Yale choral group was so skilful and enthusiastic it did my heart good...choral singing doesn't get much better than that. After the concert we walked around and discovered the many magnificent old houses on North St. (Rte. 63). Wow!
What a day!
The best of it, though, was meeting Cheryl and Kristen.

Wow - I'm so glad that you all met!!

I've actually heard about Litchfield before - from Kristen's pictures, the church is beautiful - it seems European ....

I played the midi excerpts found on the link that you provided - it seems strange that such music was written more closer to our own times - the choice of the story also seems so Medieval. Did they have the chorus and dancers as mentioned on the webpage?

Thanks again for meeting us and suggesting it, I had a great time, that church was amazing. And you are thinner than your picture showed on one of your previous posts too!

The choral group from Yale was the main attraction. There were no dancers, as in some performances, but large pictures were held up from time to time and the written program included the complete text with descriptions of what was going on. The first 30 minutes of the program was instrumental, Carl Nielsen's wind quintet played by Sospiro Winds. That was interesting and its quirkiness complemented the Menotti work. If you go to Nielsen's Wiki entry you can listen to the wind quintet.

I'm glad you like the little pin. I saw it and thought how perfect to commemorate our meeting. I hope it brings you a smile whenever you look at it :)

(( laughing )) don't forget the very unflattering "pixel factor" caused by our wider PC screens!!

For any picture taken by a camera, a single little element of the picture might be imaged at the equivalent of x by x units of resolution (i.e., height by width). Your PC screen might display it at x by (x+y) making us all look a little unflatteringly broader.

Example using numbers - not calibrated for actual technical numbers:

a camera takes a picture with a pixel value of 5 by 5 units of resolution. The PC screen will then display that pixel (and the rest of the picture in the same proportion) as 5 by 7 units of resolution so that the whole wider screen is used. The result can be a picture that makes us all cringe a little!!!
