Poor deluded goose, she doesn't know that her goslings, if any manage to hatch, will fall to their deaths from this roof in the vain search for a pond to swim in. The pair made their nest right outside the 2nd floor stacks of the library. I took the picture through a large pane of glass two weeks ago. Last Friday she was still sitting. I'll find out tomorrow if any eggs have hatched. (I work at this campus only on Fridays, and at another campus on Wed. and Sat.) The mate is sometimes there beside her all hunkered down and staring balefully into the library. We know it's Survival of the Fittest, but you hate to see the doomed ones.

Oh that is awful!! Any chance they might make a somewhat bumpy landing on the ground below? Perhaps once they start fledging, maybe they can be netted & safely released?
A poor animal's apparent mis-judgement about the things that we humans provide just makes me so sad. Here's hoping that she knows something that we don't.
Maybe a little fence of some kind can be setup in a circle around them that is large enough in diameter for the adults to easily get in-and-out of but will contain the little ones until they can be moved to a safer place ...
I just checked and she is still sitting there. It was not worth taking another picture as the scene looks just the same.
A colleague told me some geese had nested on other buildings across the quad in recent years, so maybe they know what they're doing and the chicks may survive.

(( grinning )) I can't tell you how many times, after trying to decode that screwy bunch of letters, I ended up mis-interpreting them anyway and dear Ol' Blogger would recycle and make me try all over again with a whole different set of letters to decode ...

Maybe I'm telling you something that you have already discovered but there is a setting on your setup that indicates whether to open your blog up to the blogger community or not - set it to NOT advertise it on Blogger. The other thing is to make sure that you must have at least a google id to comment. Alternately, you can close your blog down so that you have to issue an invitation to someone before they can get to your blog. The other thing is to NOT list your blog on your profile page.
I haven't so far (knock on wood) had any problems with spammers with the google id and not publicized on Blogger restrictions.
I hope you aren't bothered by spammers!!
